Hunka, hunka burnin' love

For the past 3 days I have been battling serious heartburn. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me since I typically have no digestion issues. I mean, this is the girl who went to India and used water for brushing her teeth, who drank from the faucet in Russia, who ate unmentionables in Vietnam, and who hung out with dysentery victims in Uganda and I've NEVER had stomach problems. Thanks to the web I discovered that progesterone (the hormone I've been shooting into my hip twice a day) relaxes the muscle between the esophagus and stomach, thus producing heartburn.

Sadly, the website's recommendation is to cut out caffeine (no coffee) , tomato-based foods (no lasagna or pizza), citrus fruit (no oranges), sodium-high foods (no popcorn) , fried foods (no fried okra) and chocolate (no happiness). Mike said I should start living off of rice cakes.

Oh well. Such a small sacrifice for a good purpose. I welcome any tips, though, from past or current moms who dealt with the same issue.

TUMS, TUMS, TUMS, TUMS, TUMS! When I was preg. with Nani, I used to have them in a large bottle next to my bed, in a tiny bottle in my purse, and some in the car. I enjoy the Tropical flavored SMOOTHIES - those are the best! Almost like eating candy.
And for "morning sick." - I used the gorgeous-looking sea-bands...talk about being fashionable.... LOL.
(Consult with your doc, though - seems like every doc may have diff. ideas of what's OK and NOT OK to have during pregnancy)

I agree with danielle! I went to sam's and bought the biggest collection of the smoothies (i prefer berry to tropical) and then put them in smaller containers all over the house, car, purse, etc.

I had the same problem, tums were fine but i hated the gritty taste so i took a pepcid 30 min before any meal. no yucky taste and it kept heartburn away until the 9th month. by then my diet consisted of ice cream and milk.

Hey Britt... I always have major heartburn problems for some reason. I don't know why... I think I must have acid reflux. Anyway, tums totally helps me and I agree with the person above... Tropical flavored are my favorite. It's sad to have a favorite Tums flavor, but I have to keep them with me everywhere. I feel like such an old lady, but I have a big bottle by my bed, here at work... everywhere.

I think I need one now... ;)

Several people have told me I should take something a little stronger (pepcid or something) since Tums does wear off, but heck I just take another one! i like 'em! And it's good calcium!
